About Us
Slater Turf Farm was established in 1994 at Tryon, NC. It is managed by Dave Slater who has a BS degree in Agronomy from University of Minnesota and a MS degree in Crop Science from North Carolina State University. After initial employment as an agricultural agent in North Carolina, Slater began sod farming in 1988 at Caroland Farm in South Carolina, moving to Slater Turf Farm in 1994.
A family business, Slater Turf Farm produces cool season and warm season turfgrass sod for the residential and commercial landscape market in Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. The farm is located on 200 acres of bottomland outside of Tryon, NC and Landrum, SC. The soil is productive and the climate is good. The farm has its share of floods, which can destroy the crops on a regular basis. Call our office at 800-737-TURF to check on inventory, place orders, and arrange for pick up or delivery. Our field crew then harvests your order and stages it either for pick up or delivery. We use a tremendous amount of equipment, some of it very specialized. Irrigation is very important as is mowing.
Many of our products are unique to Slater Turf Farm. Several of the turfgrass products we offer for sale are branded items that are selected for the southern region of the Carolinas. They have characteristics such as heat and drought tolerance, the ability to stay green year round, and the ability to fill themselves after times of stress.
