The right soil chemistry provides for the necessary soil environment to grow great roots which leads to great tops (grass).

Be sure to prepare your soil properly. What is proper soil preparation. Soil test for determine what your soil chemistry is currently. Short of a soil test, apply one to two bags of lime per thousand and apply a starter fertilizer. The starter fertilizer should add 2.5 pounds of phosphorous per thousand square feet. Rototill the lime and fertilizer into the soil to a depth of 2 to 4 inches. Centipede is the anomoly and you should not use lime or phosphorous for preparing soil ahead of centipede.
